26 Advantage, Solo Exhibit

This exhibition was a retrospective, a journey piece. It shows works from last century as well as last month. The paint may have dried on the most recent work, but the process is never static. There is an ebb and flow to my art, and, with over 25 years of work on display, some of those currents are openly evident, while others may take more time to drift to the surface. I can't tell you when the first stitch in my visual arts tapestry was sown. Kindergarten? Primary School? Perhaps year 11 when I dropped out of that nasty physics class and took senior art instead. It was somewhere in there, and with each new piece, every experimental medium, every signature on the bottom of a work, I created a warmer and more secure weave. Any form of Art is a dangerous business. If you dare take your story out of the studio and hang it up, let alone put a price tag on it, you can feel people, rightly or wrongly, scratching at the loose threads. You can wrap yourself in a blanket of artistic expression, but you are always aware that you are never far from it all being unravelled.
